How Do Flowers Grow?

The parts of a flower
Petals - that help attrack birds and insects to carry pollen from one plant to another.
Pistil   - or the female part of the flower.  It makes the seeds.
Stamen  - or the male parts of the flower.  They make the pollen.
Calyx   - or covering, below the petals.  It protects the flower's inner parts.
In order for a flower to make seeds, pollen from the male parts (the pistil).  We call this pollination.  Some flowers have the male and female parts in separate flowers or separate plants.  For example, hollies are either male or female.  You have to have both to get the beautiful red berries.
